Coming Next on Feb 19, 2026: After the Encampments, Antizionism and Antisemitism on Campus

A rare opportunity to hear from a scholar who has spent a lifetime wrestling with academic freedom, free speech, and the place of political activism in the classroom and the academy.

Webinar with Dr. Cary Nelson

Dr. Cary Nelson's work centers on academic freedom, campus speech, and the systematic abuse of these principles to undermine scholarship in higher education. As a senior research fellow at ISGAP, and the author of Hate Speech and Academic Freedom, Nelson examines how contemporary antisemitism and antizionism in academia mark the erosion of scholarly standards and principles of open debate.

As president of the AAUP from 2006 to 2012, Dr. Nelson advocated nationally for protections for academic freedom and shared governance. His recent books, including No University Is an Island: Saving Academic Freedom (2010) and Hate Speech and Academic Freedom: The Antisemitic Assault on Basic Principles (2024), examine how universities should respond when political activism and hate speech threaten the conditions for free intellectual inquiry.

About Dr. Nelson:
Dr. Cary Nelson is an internationally acclaimed scholar. He is the Jubilee Professor of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the author or editor of 36 books.
